Digrafika donated flowers and mulch to Project PRIDE in Rochester, NH. A few years ago, with the help of friends and local businesses, I helped beautify the facade of Project PRIDE in Rochester. Since then, I have enjoyed planting the window boxes with the students in the Spring.
This Spring I was happy to see a few familiar faces and meet a few new students there. We cleaned out the window boxes from the last planting. Then we discussed how to place the new flowers based on color and size they’ll grow to. The students did a great job and worked well with each other to share the workload. Then we moved our efforts out back to a small garden between their building and the Methodist church. They raked the leaves, turned the soil and old mulch, and trimmed a few shrubs. Then we planted a few more flowers. We discussed what other plants might go well there, and thought a few herbs, and perhaps a tomato plant would be fun to tend this summer. A great day out with the students at Project PRIDE, despite the gray weather. At least the rain held off!
The Project PRIDE program is a comprehensive out-of-school youth program serving economically disadvantaged, adjudicated, homeless, runaway, disabled, pregnant or parenting, and otherwise qualified youth as defined by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), between the ages of 18 and 21 (and those 16 and 17 who have achieved a high school diploma or GED) who wish to become economically self-sufficient, independent and productive community members.
